Find Out in Our New Video!
Cats are a beloved part of many UK households – but have you ever wondered which breeds are the most popular? Chances are that your clients have too!
To add a little fun to your Vet Channel playlist, we’ve created a brand-new video exploring the UK’s favourite cat breeds. It’s the perfect way to balance your more serious, educational content with something light-hearted and engaging.
So, who made the list?
Of course, we’ve crowned the Domestic Shorthair as number one. While not a registered breed, the humble moggy is undeniably the UK’s most common and cherished feline.
Based on 2024 registration data from the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy, here are the top five registered breeds:
- British Shorthair – 6,415 registrations
- Ragdoll – 3,043 registrations
- Maine Coon – 2,612 registrations
- Siamese – 844 registrations
What’s in the video?
We’ve packed this short, client-friendly video with fun facts and helpful insights about each breed, including personality traits and common health concerns. Here’s a sneak peek:
🐾 Domestic Shorthair
Healthy and hardy, DSHs have no breed-specific health risks and often live 14–20 years. They’re known for being affectionate, playful, and full of character.

🐾 British Shorthair
A calm and cuddly companion, the British Shorthair is a recognised breed that can live 12–17 years. They’re prone to conditions like hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and polycystic kidney disease – but that doesn’t mean they’ll develop them.

🐾 Ragdoll
Large, laid-back, and loving, Ragdolls are known for their gentle nature. They need regular grooming and are also at higher risk of certain genetic conditions, including HCM and PKD.

🐾 Maine Coon
The gentle giant of the cat world! Maine Coons are sociable and playful, with a lifespan of 9–15 years. They require daily grooming and may be prone to HCM, hip dysplasia, and patella luxation.

🐾 Siamese
Elegant, vocal, and full of energy, Siamese cats love attention and stimulation. They typically live 8–15 years and may be predisposed to conditions like asthma, hip dysplasia, and progressive retinal atrophy.
