We all know how important safety is when it comes to pets and kids. With many of the safety measures being obvious to us, as professionals, it’s easy to forget that many of our clients will not be aware of the risks.
Pets and Kids, educational video
Are you educating your clients on how to introduce a new baby to their pets, or how to keep kid safe with pets in the house? We have a responsibility to educate our clients about safety, even if it’s just to make them aware that they need to be considering safety and researching these points.

Pets and Kids, key points to consider:
Preparation:
Do your clients know how to prepare their pets for the arrival of a baby? Do they even know they should be preparing them? It’s easy to be so excited and busy preparing yourself, that you fail to consider preparing your pet. Help them learn key preparation areas, such as:
- Setting up baby paraphernalia well in advance of baby’s arrival
- Acclimatising pets to new routines well in advance
- Introducing any new ‘pet-free zones’ well in advance
- Getting the pet used to sharing their owner’s attention
- Using baby crying soundtracks
- Introducing new smells and sights early.
This is all included in our new video!

Pets and Kids, safety first:
When we love our pets as part of the family, it’s easy to forget that they are animals and that all animals can be unpredictable. Not only that, but kids can pose a danger to pets by leaving inappropriate toys or food lying around, for example.
These are some of the key safety points included in our video:
- Hygiene
- Creating safe spaces for our pets, where they will be undisturbed
- Teaching children never to approach a pet who is eating or playing with a toy
- Providing enough physical and mental stimulation to the pet, so they aren’t frustrated
- Keeping kid’s and pet’s toys separate
- Teaching kids not to feed human food to pets
- Possibly most importantly, babies or young children should never be left alone unsupervised with pets.
It’s easy to become complacent when we trust and love our pets. In a busy, hectic family home, people can easily forget to teach their kids how to interact safely with their pets.
Many clients won’t have considered these key safety messages, so start educating them today, place it onto your www.thevetchannel.co.uk waiting room TV or by downloading our new video to use on your social media!
